Mixers
The trend in mixers in the last few years has been to switch from slide faders to rotary knobs. The difference is, rotary knobs require that you look at each knob to make certain it is adjusted where you want it to be. This also requires that you focus your eyes on the knob longer than might be necessary which also means that your attention is taken away from the dance floor and/or also from cueing up the next track to be played. The process of continuously adjusting each line out is somewhat of a pain in the ass, particularly in the low light conditions we work in. With only three or four settings for each channel of EQ, the sound adjustment is very limited with too many knobs to turn.
Conversely, slide control switches work 'at a glance' and require little attention to 'tweek' when necessary. Most mixers with L & R EQ adjustments are on the 'master out' which EQ's your output signal to the amp. Adjustment is very quick and easy to read in low light conditions or when someone is bending your ear for the next request.
