Before You Buy Advice,

A D.J.'s System

Return To Home Page

We at The D.J. Worx  keep some things in mind for designing a Mobile D.J. sound and light system.

First, A Mobile Sound System should be as light as possible in weight. Several reasons are that it takes your physical energy to set up your system on site. If you have ever performed a gig when the outside temp is 100 deg. you will understand the reason why less system weight means less sweat. Being dripping wet in, or having to put on, a 'Tux' is not fun. Not to mention that you may not like the way you 'smell' before you even start your work for the night. Then, of course, there is that boat job. You know the one, the parking lot can not be seen from the boat dock, been there done that. From one D.J. to another, if you are uncomfortable before you start your gig, it will effect your performance and attitude toward your customer and their guests. Keeping the effort it takes to set up your sound and lighting to a minimum will make happy campers of everyone, including you.

Lighting systems are a setup nightmare, wiring everywhere! Wrong. A Light Show setup is not like sound, it has many more wires to plug in depending on what you are using. In the 80's our Founder designed a one plug, remote control, system. Setup of the light show required no more than about 5 - 10 minutes of time and had only one power cord to plug into the light show itself. This can be accomplished today with available off the shelf components. Life can be simple.

When considering purchase of a new system or just up-grading, get only what you need. An extra piece of equipment that you the you 'might' need some day is a waste of money. Occasional use items are normally a rented item. Rentals are fairly inexpensive and save you the troubles of cost, maintenance, and storage. Most gigs average about 100 - 150 people. A 400w. (2 X 200 @ 8ohms) is an ample system. Outdoors or gatherings larger than 400 may require 4 speakers instead of two.

If you are putting a new system together, think about what it would take to make it easier for you to set up the system at your gig. With all of your 'stuff' on site and in place, two speaker cords, one power cord and about 15 minutes is all that you should need to plug in and power up. If it takes more than this to set up your system, you need to talk to us.
